Mindfulness

Name your Demons

I've been doing a lot of introspection and self-evaluation lately. Trying to find the reasons behind the background discontentment in my life. I've been looking at my personality, values, ethics and history for pointers to what drives me.

It has not been pleasant as I've needed to face everything that causes me pain and discomfort, to work through the decisions that I've made in my life and the consequences of those decisions. It has been risky in that the outcome could mean that my life is on a path that is completely at odds with my true nature.

I recently read a book "Where ever you go, There you are".  I love this title, it is a very simple and obvious statement, but at the same time it wraps up so much complexity. Ultimately it means that there is only the present moment, we are where we are, and that we need to deal with the choices and events that we have now, not those in the future or those that happened in the past. It is a book about mindfulness and a guide on getting there.

Values

At times, life seems to be an endless treadmill. I get up, go to work, come home, do chores and go to bed so that I can get up and do the same thing over again. Sure I find time to watch TV, or to take the kids somewhere every now and again, but I can't help feeling that I'm just going in circles. It's not that I hate my job either, the work is interesting, the people are nice, but I always want to be doing something else.
